Scallops are one of the cleanest and safest shellfish to eat. The “muscle” that we eat is not a filter of the surrounding water which in turn means it is not susceptible to toxins. They are a free swimming mollusk, unlike Mussels and Clams which means they can travel and swim to new areas if need be.

Scallops are low in sodium and saturated fat and mostly protein. This is a great lean source of food and is paired with fresh vegetables for this reason of lightness to the dish.
